Creating Planning Jobs

Process Definition:

Planning jobs exist to track inventory you have today, and what you plan to turn it into in the future. Tracking of inventory to planning orders works the same as consignment inventory, but this inventory is still owned by the company operating Deacom. Planning jobs will not appear in MRP or Job Calendars. Planning jobs will not have production reported against them, instead they will be closed once the plan is no longer needed.

Planning orders will also work like a blanket production order. The full desired quantity and item should be placed on the job, while lots of existing inventory can be continually committed to the plan.

Lots committed to planning orders will be able to be used in production so they can be turned into the planned item. Planning order commitments should be handled in production the same way consignment orders commitments are. The commitment will be propagated from the relieved lots to the produced lots.

Planning jobs should generally have a single line on them, since lots are not committed to individual lines, but the job.

Note: Planning jobs will not be scheduled in the MPC if automatic scheduling is on.

Configuration:

Planning jobs will require the same setup conditions used in Production Jobs, as well as the additional items below.

  • Security - "Jobs--create planning jobs"

Process in Deacom:

Committing Inventory to Planning Jobs

Inventory will be committed to planning jobs through an issue transaction. Rather than issuing the lots to WIP and allocating to the job, the commitment(fi_committo) value will be assigned as the planning job.

Any inventory already committed will not be able to be issued to a planning job. These lots will be filtered out of the inventory out grid. The system will ensure that if the item is not lot controlled and when selecting lots that committed lots are unavailable. When save is clicked the lots will be committed to the planning order. The lots will not be placed into an issued/WIP status or have an allocation(fi_allonum) value to the job. The 'committo' value will be set like postref and use ‘JJ-jobnum’. A new fi_action type of ‘Committed To’ is used.

Viewing Commitments

  • The ‘View Issued’ button on the issue form stills open the lot summary report, and show all inventory currently committed(fi_committo – JJ-XXX) to this job.
  • The ‘Inventory’ button on the View Job form will open the inventory report but will show all commitment  and un-commitment transactions that have been done for this job.

Removing Commitments from Planning Jobs

  • Planning job commitments can be removed using the de-issue transaction.

Production with Committed Inventory

Inventory can be committed to a consignment order or internal planning job. Those commitments will be propagated through production the same way regardless of type. The only difference will be inventory committed to a consignment order is held in specific inventory accounts for consignment, and inventory committed to a planning job will keep normal posting/accounting functionality.

Closing Planning Jobs

A planning job is ready to be closed once the indented inventory has been produced through normal job transactions, or there is no longer a need for the plan. Planning jobs should be closed the same way as other jobs.

When save is clicked and "Close Job" is true, the system will check if any inventory on hand is currently committed to the planning job.

  • If not – Close the job like a normal job. No inventory should ever be consumed/expensed during this process.
  • If there is inventory committed to the job, the system will display the following prompt: "There is still inventory committed to this job, do you want to remove the commitment?”
    • If no is selected, the job will not be closed.
    • If yes is selected, the system will close the job and clear the fi_committo for the lots that were committed.

Cancelling Planning Jobs

Planning jobs my be cancelled as long as no inventory is currently committed to them. This is similar to the check for issued material for normal jobs. On the job entry form, when the status is changed to canceled, and the job is saved and the system checks if there is any inventory currently committed to the job.

  • If not – the system continues and saves the change.
  • If there is inventory committed, the following prompt will be displayed and the job cannot be cancelled: “Please de-commit all inventory from the job before cancelling.”
